Book Review: Between Wyomings

betweenwyomingsBetween Wyomings: My God and an iPod on the Open Road
by Ken Mansfield

Do you feel that you have an angel on your shoulder and the devil on your back? As Ken Mansfield struggles between a deep belief in God and a plague of doubts about his faith. Having spent over forty years of senseless meandering, he embarks on one last journey in his quest to find answers, inviting you to travel along with him and his wife, Connie.

If you grew up listening to music in the 60s through the 90s, you have no doubt heard and enjoyed some of this Grammy-winning producer’s music. Through his cross country journey Ken jostles us back and forth between his present soul-searching journey and his reminisces of four decades in the music industry. Through stories of success and innovation, pain and sorrow, Ken transparently reflects ‘the shallow importance of worldly things in those heady days’ and honestly explains that ‘the dilemmas I’ve experienced since were always about not letting go of those same old terrestrial considerations.’

This book is for all who desire to discover and recover God’s purpose for their lives. This journey will reveal the vapidness of seeking after only worldly honor and fame. It calls the reader to trust God and seek Him daily.

Transformed Interviews Fran Tarkenton

Book FranTarkentonMike Powers sits down to talk to Fran Tarkenton, former professional football player, TV personality, and computer software executive. Tarkenton played for the Vikings from 1961 to 1966, during this time he developed the nickname scrambler as he ran around the backfield to avoid being sacked by the opposition. Tarkenton was traded to the New York Giants in 1967 and played there until 1972 when he was traded back to Minnesota. He retired after the 1978 season and held every career quarterback record in the National Football League at that time.

Filled with never-before-heard stories and dozens of personal photographs, Every Day Is Game Day is the entertaining and uplifting memoir of the legendary sports figure and business entrepreneur.

From the alleys of Washington, D.C., to Athens, Georgia, the NFL, and beyond, Tarkenton takes the reader inside the huddles of his world, both on and off the field. He shares his highest of highs–those glory years in purple, business triumphs, and the deep and abiding love of family and friends. He also reveals his lowest of lows, including the day of the infamous Cowboys’ “Hail Mary” pass that spelled playoff defeat for the greatest Vikings team ever and compounded with a personal tragedy to make it the worst day of his life.

This is not just the story of an incredible athlete, but also a portrait of a genuine and inspirational leader who has touched the hearts and souls of so many who have crossed his path.

Transformed Episode #73 – The Forgiveness of God (Wiping the List Clean)

forgiveness_banner

Today we continue our new series entitled, Forgiveness – The Breath of Life! We hope you will discover the power and reality of authentic Christian forgiveness as you study through this series. In today’s episode, The Forgiveness of God, we discover how to wipe the list of our sins clean!

We cannot deny our sins; we can’t redefine them as something else; we can’t rationalize them or shift blame to others. We can try to repress them by drowning the accusing voice of conscience in busyness, distractions, or even chemicals, but it doesn’t work. Scripture takes forgiveness seriously. God is a forgiving God, and we can live in the freedom of full, final and finished forgiveness. Let’s listen in on Dr. Matthew Lee Smith as he teaches the congregation at First Baptist Church of Palos Verdes Ca how this is possible from Romans 3.23.

Transformed Episode #072 – The Murder of Jesus (A Costly Forgiveness)

forgiveness_banner

Today we begin a new series entitled, Forgiveness – The Breath of Life!

In this series we hope you will discover the power and reality of authentic Christian forgiveness.

Have you been hurt? Have you been injured by another? Are you having a hard time forgiving? Does your offender ignore the attack upon you? Is the pain unbearable?

What can we do when we know forgiveness is needed and wanted?

In this first episode, The Murder of Jesus, we will discover the understandings necessary to open our hearts for cleansing, liberation and transformation that true and appropriate forgiveness brings!

The cross stands at the very heart of the gospel. The Lord Jesus defined His life in terms of the cross. The central meaning of the life of Jesus is not found in the living of his life but in the giving of it! We received a costly forgiveness. Let’s join Dr. Matthew Lee Smith as he teaches the congregation at First Baptist Church of Palos Verdes Ca from Isaiah 52.13 – 53.12.

Expressing and receiving God’s love and forgiveness is what Dr. Smith’s book, In His Image, is all about. As you respond to God’s Word and wisdom today, we are sure this book will show you both how to love like God loves and enjoy his forgiveness on a daily basis. Copies are available on the side bar at the EaglesInLeadership.org website. We encourage you to order yours today.

Transformed Episode #071 – Careers Beyond Your Wildest Dreams

What does it take for the true follower of Jesus Christ to enjoy a career beyond your wildest dreams? A career beyond our wildest dreams can only happen when we obey our bosses or care for our employees as if we were working directly for King Jesus!

If you want a career beyond your wildest dreams, then you will need to endear yourself to the boss. Your conditions will soften or change as a result, perhaps even becoming “like family” and being cared for with similar treatment. This will only happen when you do your work from the heart – and accept, even appreciate – the role and benefits of your boss.
