One of the least taught truths in discipleship is the fact that the greatest use for our money is investment. And “Compound interest is the eighth wonder of the world. He who understands it, earns it; he who doesn’t, pays it.” ~ Albert Einstein
Imagine being able to enjoy the benefits of compound interest for all eternity! Jesus, while he’s teaching about eternal life, slips in this truth about our eternal bank account. While we look at these things through a glass, dimly, we are aware that Jesus speaks from experiential knowledge.
So one of the things that I am contemplating these days is the size of my deposits into the poor around me. Am I motivated to keep my money while on Earth and leave it behind when I step into eternity or am I motivated by building my bank account in Heaven, and therefore giving to the poor on Earth while I’m here? And if my motivation is selfish, is there any real value in giving to poor while I’m here? And why doesn’t my heart want to give just because of love?
Just some questions that I’m pondering and I thought it might be helpful for you to think about as well. What do you say?
