Dr. Matthew Smith, director of Eagles In Leadership, continues to teach verse by verse through the book of James, one verse per podcast. These studies were recorded live in his class at Bible Believers Christian College and Seminary in Hawthorne, California.
The book of James has been called, “the faith explained” and that is the purpose of these teachings. These short studies are designed to help you grow your faith.
Now, let’s open our Bibles to the book of James as Dr. Smith discusses our faith from the words of the step-brother of Jesus, the head of the Jerusalem Church …
There is no confusion – God’s people suffer. Where the confusion comes in at is, “Why?” While many people remain baffled, the Bible speaks directly to this issue repeatedly. This study is designed to open the pages of God’s Word and discover five of the core reasons why God’s people suffer. It will bring illumination and inspiration, hope and healing to those who are struggling in life right now.

Dr. Matthew Lee Smith, lead Pastor at Pacific Baptist Church in El Segundo, California helps us realize that ever since Adam and Eve, the world has been broken. Things don’t work right. The effects of this brokenness are all around us. If it were not for the intervention of God, with His mercy and grace, we would find little help from our present circumstances.
Let’s open our Bible to Genesis 3 as we join the study, “We live in a broken world” …

Worship is not a spectator sport! It is a totally unknown thought to think of sitting and watching people worship. Worship, by its very definition, requires the participation of all.
In our worship we are blessed by His presence. For those who “don’t get anything out of worship,” we would applaud their honesty. Since they are not the reason for the meeting, they should have been giving, not receiving!
As we open our Bibles again to Psalm 103, Dr. Matthew Lee Smith, lead Pastor at Pacific Baptist Church in El Segundo, California reminds us that true worship means God is receiving the words, attitudes and actions of the people in attendance. God is the audience, we are the actors. All we do in worship is for Him.
And with that final prayer of gratitude, Dr. Smith concludes this series from Psalm 103.
If you are ever in the Los Angeles area, the people of Pacific Baptist Church would love to invite you to worship with them. Simply open the link to Pacific Baptist Church and find the current worship schedule there. Worship is casual dress and begins promptly at 11:00 am each Sunday at Pacific Baptist Church, 859 Main Street, El Segundo, CA. You are always welcome!

Obedience is the entrance pass into dynamic worship! Sit back and listen to the worship of any congregation you visit and within minutes you can determine whether they are doers of the word or hearers only.
Those who obey know the joys of following the Word of God. They have experienced the presence of the Lord and the power of His Spirit in their lives. They have heard the whispers of His leading and know the benefits of obeying His leadings.
As we open our Bibles again to Psalm 103, Dr. Matthew Lee Smith, lead Pastor at Pacific Baptist Church in El Segundo, California reminds us that God’s benefits cause us to passionately and excitedly praise His name in the midst of the congregation!
And with that final prayer of gratitude, Dr. Smith wraps up this third message from Psalm 103.

David reminds us again and again of God goodness! The source of constant motivations to return to His side and proclaim His praises in the midst of the Great Assembly each week, God’s compassion draws us like a moth to a flame.
As we are often accused by the devil, we know too well how often we fail God. After repeatedly being denigrated by God’s arch-enemy, it can be hard to imagine God wanting to have us back in His presence.
If it were a different sin from time to time, that would be different. Yet, here I am again, asking forgiveness for the same sin for the ump-teen hundredth time.
As we open our Bibles again to Psalm 103, Dr. Matthew Lee Smith, lead Pastor at Pacific Baptist Church in El Segundo, California answers the question, “How can God forgive me again?”
And with that final prayer of gratitude, Dr. Smith wraps up this second message in the series, “Worship His Holy Name!
