Pastor, why should you go to Israel with us?
• The Biblical Reason: Standing in garden where Jesus prayed, being baptized in the Jordan River, visiting the home of Peter’s mother, or even visiting the tomb where Jesus rose from the dead transforms our understandings and perceptions like nothing else can.
In one of the most familiar passages for most Bible students, King Solomon of United Israel dedicated the Temple he had built to the Lord. Then he prayed a passionate, well thought out prayer for mercy from God.
For 2 weeks they prayed, made offerings and rejoiced in God’s presence. After the event was over, the Lord came to Solomon and told him that He had agreed to answer Solomon’s requests. As He answered, He showed all of us four of the primary causes of major calamities that befall a people … God’s people!

““When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command locusts to devour the land or send a plague among my people, if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:13–14, NIV)

As a result of King Rehoboam’s unfaithfulness to the Lord, Shishak the king of Egypt attacked Jerusalem. King Rehoboam and the leaders of Jerusalem humbled themselves and God chose not to destroy them and give them deliverance from death.

“The leaders of Israel and the king humbled themselves and said, “The Lordis just.” When the Lord saw that they humbled themselves, this word of the Lord came to Shemaiah: “Since they have humbled themselves, I will not destroy them but will soon give them deliverance. My wrath will not be poured out on Jerusalem through Shishak. They will, however, become subject to him, so that they may learn the difference between serving me and serving the kings of other lands.” When Shishak king of Egypt attacked Jerusalem, he carried off the treasures of the temple of the Lordand the treasures of the royal palace. He took everything, including the gold shields Solomon had made. So King Rehoboam made bronze shields to replace them and assigned these to the commanders of the guard on duty at the entrance to the royal palace. Whenever the king went to the Lord’s temple, the guards went with him, bearing the shields, and afterward they returned them to the guardroom. Because Rehoboam humbled himself, the Lord’s anger turned from him, and he was not totally destroyed. Indeed, there was some good in Judah.” (2 Chronicles 12:6–12, NIV)
I love planting seeds and watching things grow. It’s so much fun for me to till the ground, plant, and then watch, tend and water my garden until there are onions and carrots and cabbage and tomatoes and squash, watermelons and … I know that whatever I plant will multiply as it grows.

If we want 2020 to be our year of expansion, we will need to avoid great failures in our lives with all of our strength and discipline. We all know what it’s like to be almost out of control. Sometimes evil thoughts flood our minds and our hearts and drag us away from all that is right and good in God’s eyes. It is in those moments we must reject evil in order to live.

Flying around the world has taught me several lessons. One of those lessons is that jets fly faster with a tailwind. When we have that extra push we arrive ahead of time. God has a tailwind for you as well in 2020, and it is called the favor of the Lord.

Bad advice. We’ve all taken it and we’ve all suffered from it. It seems like everyone has a plan for our lives, and many people are working very hard to make sure we do not succeed in 2020!

Have you ever taken someone’s advice only to find out afterward that what seemed to be good wisdom turned out to be disastrous? All of us have done that at one point or another. But we choose to ignore wisdom right in front of us and the consequences are all too often much worse to me could’ve ever imagined!

While joining in corporate worship is good and it is enjoyable to honor His name with God’s people, I am thrilled for the time alone with Him daily in the Word as I hear His voice so clearly and He shares His plans so distinctly.
As He speaks, I stand in awe and bow before Him. Who am I that God would choose me and what is my family that He would want to use us in these amazing plans He is describing daily to me?
Yes, corporate worship will be wonderful again and I will be glad to reconnect with my spiritual family on a face-to-face basis each weekend.
But my spiritual life is amazingly good right now. My ministry time has increased as people seek me out for counsel and as I seek out others for their wisdom and prayer.
These are great days for planning and preparation to accomplish the Prime Directive King Jesus gave each one of us before He departed: Make disciples of all nations!
So, as I rise and throughout my day – each day – I am working on that very directive. And I seek His heart and direction as I plan for the next season “out in the fields” that are white unto harvest.
Yes, it will be good to be back with God’s people assembled, to worship His glorious Name again in unison.
However, Covid-19 has given me a gift … a greater focus on the One who is my life (Colossians 3.4). And I am so grateful and excited to be preparing in His presence, in His words, with His Spirit for what lies beyond!
When we reopen – and we WILL reopen – I will be ready for the next season to fulfill King Jesus’ Prime Directive of Making Disciples BECAUSE of this season. I am so grateful. Hallelujah!
